Hyperlexia is a learning profile in which children show an early and strong interest in letters, numbers, symbols, and written words. Many hyperlexic children recognize letters or read words well before it is expected for their age, often finding meaning and comfort in print. Hyperlexia is not a diagnosis on its own and is commonly seen in autistic and other neurodivergent children, though not all hyperlexic children are autistic. For these learners, written language can be a powerful pathway for communication, understanding, and learning, especially when paired with strength-based support that honors how they naturally engage with language.
NeuroLexic is a creator of books and learning resources designed for hyperlexic and neurodivergent children, as well as the speech-language pathologists and special educators who support them. Founded by a speech-language pathologist, NeuroLexic develops alphabet- and symbol-based children’s books alongside evidence-informed speech and language resources that honor strengths, support communication for early language learners, including those who use AAC.
Right now, our books can be found through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Walmart. We’re also working toward getting NeuroLexic books into libraries and independent bookstores, especially small, community-focused shops and those owned by neurodivergent booksellers. Supporting indie bookstores is something we truly care about. If you are an independent bookseller, please reach out! NeuroLexic is founded by a speech-language pathologist with a deep love for working with hyperlexic children. Through years of clinical practice, she has been inspired by the many hyperlexic learners she has supported and fascinated by the unique ways their brains work. She designs books and resources especially for hyperlexic learners to satisfy their curious minds and build their language skills. She currently lives on a farm in Maryland with her wife and their toddler son.
